Butt hinges are a smaller version of the Continuous Hinge. The Butt hinge usually comes in equal lengths and widths (ex: 4" open x 4" long.) with two independent sleeves. They are available with non-removable pins, with or without holes.
Butt hinges are commonly used on interior and exterior doors due to their neat, clean look. It consists of two rectangular leaves with screw holes. The leaves are joined by a pin or metal rod. Both leaves are recessed, or "mortised": one into the edge of the door, the other in the jamb, or door framework. When the door is closed, the leaves meet or "butt" together with only the pin showing. |
